Rather than starting the year out with huge unrealistic goals like everyone you see on Instagram, how about we work together to share a few key reasonable tips that we're sure everyone can accomplish but that will also have huge impact.
1. Fruit is Nature's Candy
Most of us enjoy fruits. They are usually sweet and bring good added flavour with real necessary nutrient benefits to our lives. How about for 2019 we try to replace bad sugars with natural ones and fruit is an excellent way to do so. Instead of adding sugar to our oatmeal, cereal, and even beverages, how about we begin using more fruits. Our bodies will thank us for the extra antioxidants and vitamins. Just be sure like most things, you don't over do it and have too many additional calories.
2. Get More Rest
It sounds simple enough but it's something that we take for granted much too often. There are many studies on the benefits of sleep. Quite frankly we can't live without it. Sleep keeps your heart healthy, reduces inflammation, improves memory, reduces stress among many other crucial bodily functions. We've even learned that people getting less than 6 to 7 hours of sleep nightly are at a greater risk of developing diseases. Here are a couple good articles about the benefits of sleeping more Business Insider & Very Well Health.
3. Stop Ignoring Breakfast
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. We've heard it time and time again. Yet somehow so many of us rush out of the house on a morning grab a coffee and maybe an oatmeal bar and jet off to work, a meeting or just start our days.
“Starting your day with a nutritious breakfast kick-starts your metabolism and provides fuel for your body and brain,” says Lena Beal, M.S., RD, LD, a therapeutic dietitian at Piedmont’s Fuqua Heart Center. “By skipping breakfast, you miss out on important nutrients that you won’t make up for later in the day,” says Beal. “And these vitamins, minerals and fiber are important for a well-balanced diet.”
